Why you should write

“The instinct to create remains as long as one thinks.”

-Isaac Singer

The urge to write, to put our thoughts on paper, is like an involuntary, almost compulsive, act that takes control of our emotions.”

- Ritu Khanna

“People who write look twice, listen for smells, dig deeper, build dream castles, get from behind locked doors, have a ball, play in the sun, get into and out of deep water, sing in their own key.”

- Torrance

Writers Workshop Series

Writing to the Music In You

Each session is a hands on themed creative writing lesson. You will be asked to cut and paste, color, blow bubbles, mold with play dough, stand up, sit down, smell the flowers, taste some chocolate or other food, play with toys, draw an outline, and create words on paper. You will be asked to write from old photographs, art work, antique toys and memorabilia, and put yourself into someone else’s lifetime. Because this is about writing to the music in you, you can choose any form to write in. During the last portion of  each lesson we will create a class poem. Home work assignments are not mandatory and always your choice.

Course Outline:

Lessons will revolve around journal writing, poetry, short essays, letters, and creating stories. Each session will have a writing project designed for individual, interactive and group participation.

Student Requirements:

Students share their work, complete writing assignments,  participate, and respect the efforts of other students.
